The Department of Veteran Affairs, a well-regarded government organisation, provide an essential service by supporting our defence personnel and their families in a time of need. Possessing a large portfolio of sites across Australia, they are currently seeking for a Senior Workforce Development and Training Officer to join their team for a in initial 12-month contract, with the genuine opportunity to extend.


About the role
As a Senior Workforce Development and Training Officer, you will be responsible for the supervision, mentoring and coaching of staff, and will be reporting to the Assistant Director. You will deliver high quality advice, project coordination and implementation services.
This position involves applying creative and innovative approaches, providing leadership and act as a resource to the Open Arms National Operations teams. You will also will collaborate the relevant DVA business areas, and other government departments and agencies to support positive outcomes for veterans and their families.

Your responsibilities:

  • Coordinate strategic planning and implementation of program of works to support high quality mental health service delivery, with a specific focus on the Client Management System (CMS).
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and coaching for staff as required to effectively manage performance and encourage professional growth.
  • Develop and support relationships with internal and external stakeholders by anticipating and responding to stakeholder needs.
  • Coordinate strategic planning for longer-term initiatives, including implementing a training needs analysis.
  • Develop and maintain documentation as well as provide Secretariat support, and assist with the development and conduct of Open Arms focus groups and Working Groups as required.
  • Coordinate and develop advice, input, briefings, papers, submissions and correspondence for use in both internal and external decision-making forums.


Your skills and experience:

  • You will have an understanding of mental health services; as well as relevant experience in the Australian Public Service, and the Australian Defence Force.
  • Experience in mental health, psychology, social sciences, humanities or a related field, workforce planning, technical change management and ICT project management are highly regarded.
  • IT proficient and able to work flexibly across multiple issues with limited guidance.
  • Complex stakeholder management experience and demonstrated communication skills to effectively manage these relationships.

You MUST be an Australian Citizen and Eligible to clear a National Police check to be considered for this role
