Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage in multiple APS6 Work Health & Safety Advisor for a 12-month assignment with potential extension in Adelaide CBD.

About the Team
The People & Culture Division provides support to workers and managers throughout the employee lifecycle. They support the Agency to provide a safe workplace for workers, to build their capability and foster a positive and inclusive culture.
The division supports our people to contribute to shaping the future of the NDIS as the employer of choice in the Public Sector.
The Work Health Safety & Wellbeing (WHSW) team supports the Agency to provide a physically and psychologically safe working environment through an effective Work Health and Safety (WHS) Management System and Mental Health and Wellbeing action plan. The team develops and implements integrated policies, practices and governance processes in relation to the safety, well-being and management of worker health.
The WHSW team works in partnership with all NDIA stakeholders across a range of forums to build a safe, healthy and productive workplace where people at all levels are empowered to create and maintain safe work environments.

About the Role
The APS6 Work Health & Safety Advisor (Labour Hire) is a team membership position that may be required to perform work that involves team leadership and management responsibilities requiring the setting of priorities and managing workflows of a team.
The position has reasonable autonomy and accountability to exercise both initiative and judgment to interpret legislation and policy, in the application of practices and procedures to achieve outcomes within the functions.

The APS6 Work Health & Safety Advisor (Labour Hire) is required to provide detailed technical, professional, policy, operational support and advice in relation to complex problems. Where required, the role will coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, program and project management and policy development that support the NDIA’s objectives to “build a world-leading National Disability Insurance Scheme”.
The position will have a considerable level of public contact in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive issues. It is required to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a representational role on behalf of the branch/division/NDIA.

Key skills required for role:
  • The ability to provide WHS advice and assistance, including providing information relating to how persons can comply with legislation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with stakeholders at multiple levels, utilising appropriate oral and written format.

Desirable skills to have for the role:
  • A certificate level qualification in work health and safety, or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in corporate level WHS operations.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Providing WHS advice to workers and managers across the NDIA, including interpreting and applying legislation, policy and procedures.
  • Providing technical WHS advice to support the business functions of the WHSW Team, including advising managers on technical and best practice WHS processes in a public service context.
  • Taking a leading role in implementing the WHS Management System for the NDIA, including developing and implementing policies, procedures and the development of learning and development materials.
  • Managing and providing advice on incident responses, including coordinating incident investigations.
  • Undertaking and/or reviewing hazard and risk assessments, and coordinating the development and maintenance of the NDIA’s WHS risk register and hazard inspection schedule.
  • Taking a leading role in supporting a safety culture in the NDIA, including sharing own expertise, providing guidance to colleagues and developing WHS communications.
  • Preparing briefs, reports, meeting papers and other materials related to managing WHS in the NDIA.
  • Providing WHS advice on complex and sensitive staffing matters where necessary.
