Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a WHS Advisor on a contract for 12 months.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties may include some or all of the following:

  • lead and manage staff - set work direction, team priorities and practices, develop work plans, manage performance and underperformance
  • provide expert advice, interpretation, support and guidance to staff on a range of work health and safety issues, including risk control measures
  • conduct risk assessment activities following identification of hazards or on request, facilitate incident reporting and follow up
  • facilitate compliance with work health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines among the agency's staff to prevent or minimise the consequences of accidents and/or incidents
  • implement and promote agency work health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines
  • monitor work health and safety performance and compliance with health and safety legislation through ongoing reviews such as SAPs
  • maintain work health and safety related records documents in accordance with the agency's guidelines and work health and safety legislation, and provide statistical reporting to more senior staff.
  • participate in health and safety forums, communicate work health and safety related information to key internal and external stakeholders
  • coordinate selection and training of health and safety representatives (HSRs) in compliance with the agency's HSMA and health and safety legislation. Provide advice and support to HSRs
  • conduct workstation assessments, including identification of equipment and environmental modifications
  • provide administrative support including procurement of services such as health promotion services, flu vaccinations, Staff Assistance Program (EAP) services, HSR training and work related equipment

Skills & Experience:

Ability to:

  • employ high level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence a variety of stakeholders and staff of various levels across the agency
  • analyse data and compile reports about health and safety performance and trends.
  • exercise sound judgement when undertaking risk management processes
  • demonstrate training and facilitation skills
  • plan, organise and manage work in the context of competing priorities
