About the Role

The APS6 Senior Rehabilitation Advisor will provide specialist advice that is informed and directed by a sound knowledge of compensation and injury prevention/management principles, procedures and processes. You will take a proactive customer focus and implement strategies to achieve quality outcomes for both the injured employee and the department. This often involves managing relationships with multiple parties across a variety of issues, ranging in complexity and sensitivity. Additionally, you will select, gathers and examines information to arrive at workable solutions or appropriate advice, within the parameters of established policies and legislation.


The APS6 Senior Rehabilitation Advisor will:

  • Establish a rehabilitation need and potential for return to work
  • Engage and manage a Comcare approved workplace rehabilitation provider to deliver the return-to-work services where required
  • Coordinate fitness for duty and invalidity assessments where required
  • Assist and guide staff through the Comcare claims process
  • Coordinate the development of a return-to-work plan
  • influence the progress of a return-to-work plan and ensuring all parties fulfil their responsibilities
  • Assist to source and negotiate job placements for injured employees, both internal and external to the department
  • Consult with the Assistant Director and relevant stakeholders on compensable claims where they are complex and/or high cost, involve reconsiderations or AAT appeals
  • Identify and refer cases containing broader people/policy issues to relevant people teams for attention and action
  • Coordinating case closure and providing post return to work support
  • Prepare correspondence including reports and submissions.
  • Collect, monitor and provide reports on a range of indicators (such as claims and provider costs, early intervention, case management outcomes etc), and develop and implement business improvement strategies.
  • Provide training, specialist advice and support to employees and managers on rehabilitation related policies and procedures, including interpretation and implementation of policy.
  • Collate and file documents/correspondence and maintain work area records in accordance with agency and legislative requirements.
  • Represent the team, work area and/or the department at internal and external forums.
  • Supervise, coach and mentor APS 5 Rehabilitation Case Managers is applicable, including management of performance/underperformance, attendance, learning and development and the allocation of work.
  • Foster and manage complex relationships with and between, multiple internal and external stakeholders in order to support and facilitate them through the rehabilitation process.

  • Ability to investigate, interpret and evaluate information for the guidance of staff
  • Initiative and the ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve business objectives
  • Contribute to deliverables of 2023-24 business plan.
  • Undertake role, administration and duties in accordance 2023-24 expectations.
  • Undertake identified strategic projects.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement for efficiency and productivity improvements
