About the Role

The APS6 Policy Officer is a team membership position within the organisation and is accountable for organising their workflow and providing support and advice relating to a discrete area of responsibility.

The position will provide policy support, advice and analysis in relation to policy-related matters, including complex policy problems. The position may be required to coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, program and project management and policy development that support the organisation's objectives to "build a world-leading Scheme".

The APS6 Policy Officer will have a minimal level of public contact in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive issues. It may liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a representational role on behalf of the Branch.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Gathering and collating documents, ensuring appropriate consultation with document owners and subject matter experts.
  • Reviewing case files and preparing summaries of cases.
  • Providing high level support to senior leaders who are appearing as witnesses before a Royal Commission.
  • Interpreting and distilling information to provide briefings to senior leaders.
  • Performing independent research and analysis, recording findings to be included in information submitted to senior executives and/or the Royal Commission.
  • Preparing draft written material including executive briefs and corporate documentation.
  • Identifying and assisting with the management of risks, issues and benefits. (NOTE: the key responsibilities of the role are based on current priorities and may change over time)

    Key Skills Required
  • Interpreting, drafting and reviewing policy and procedural issues within specialist areas.
  • Contributing to the planning and implementation of policies and objectives.
  • Drafting reports, briefing papers, speeches, Ministerial correspondence and discussion papers.
  • Conducting research and analysis to inform policy development.
  • Tailoring written and verbal communications for a variety of audiences, providing advice on complex issues.
  • Identifying emerging issues across mainstream interfaces and suggesting potential solutions.
