Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a APS6 Policy Officer for 12 month assignment with potential extension in Adelaide CBD.

About the Team

The Mainstream Interface & Royal Commissions Branch provides advice and policy analysis to inform the development, negotiation, coordination and agreement of strategic and intergovernmental policy and programs that interact with the NDIS. The branch represents the Agency's position on strategic policy matters in intergovernmental, bilateral and multilateral forums, to inform policy decisions that align with NDIS legislation, obligations and priorities, enhance outcomes for participants, are fit for purpose and maintain the intent and integrity of the scheme. It is responsible for leading and managing the Agency's involvement in strategic policy matters, which include Australian's Disability Strategy, NDIS mainstream interface with other service systems, the YPIRAC Strategy & Implementation Plan and the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. The branch is also responsible for managing the NDIA's interactions with Royal Commissions.

About the Role

The APS6 Policy Officer (Labour Hire) is a team membership position within the NDIA and is accountable for organising their workflow and providing support and advice relating to a discrete area of responsibility. The position will provide policy support, advice and analysis in relation to policy-related matters, including complex policy problems.

The position may be required to coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, program and project management and policy development that support the NDIA's objectives to "build a world-leading National Disability Insurance Scheme".

The APS6 Policy Officer (Labour Hire) will have a minimal level of public contact in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive issues. It may liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a representational role on behalf of the Branch.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Gathering and collating documents, ensuring appropriate consultation with document owners and subject matter experts.
  • Reviewing case files and preparing summaries of cases.
  • Providing high level support to senior leaders who are appearing as witnesses before a Royal Commission.
  • Interpreting and distilling information to provide briefings to senior leaders.
  • Performing independent research and analysis, recording findings to be included in information submitted to senior executives and/or the Royal Commission.
  • Preparing draft written material including executive briefs and corporate documentation.
  • Identifying and assisting with the management of risks, issues and benefits.

Key skills required for role/s:

  • Interpreting, drafting and reviewing policy and procedural issues within specialist areas.
  • Contributing to the planning and implementation of NDIA policies and objectives.
  • Drafting reports, briefing papers, speeches, Ministerial correspondence and discussion papers.
  • Conducting research and analysis to inform policy development.
  • Tailoring written and verbal communications for a variety of audiences, providing advice on complex issues.
  • Identifying emerging issues across mainstream interfaces and suggesting potential solutions.

  • APS6 $58.50/ph + super
  • Temporary contract for 12 months, with possibility to extend
  • Standard Hours or work - Monday to Friday, 8:30 am till 5:00 pm
