Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS6 Finance Officer on a contract until 30/06/2022 with potential extension of 12 months.

About the Role:

The Finance Officer is a centralised role works closely with several stakeholders to assist in managing the financial obligations of the MHWSD. The officer assists in coordinating branch inputs into the Budget and provides advice on branch financial information.

The officer is a member of the MHWSD Service Delivery Support section and is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director Finance with the financial functions that support the delivery of activities and related functions within the division. The officer will also undertake other tasks within the Service Delivery Support team as directed to support the efficient operations of the section.

The duties of this position require the officer to work cooperatively across all branches within the division and with other areas of the Department and communicate with other government employees and representatives of non-government organisations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • External Budget administration
  • Liaise with other agency Branch Finance Managers for Program 2.5 funding
  • Liaise with agency's External Budgets section
  • Internal Budgeting development
  • Assist with input into the internal budget processes and timeframes within branch
  • Assist with budget change requests and management of the review and approval process
  • Provide financial advice and support to Directors with regard to their internal budget
  • Liaise with Directors and their support staff to assist in resolving any inconsistencies and issues as they arise.
  • Reporting and Forecasting
  • Undertake financial analysis and provide monthly financial reports;
  • Provide financial advice with on forecasting, budget changes, pressures and impacts on a monthly basis, including reporting of these to the agency Finance and Property Branch
  • Brief the Assistant Director Finance on monthly variance analysis;
  • Forecast budget changes, pressures and impacts on a monthly basis, in consultation with directors
  • Report variances and forecasting to the Business Support Services Section; and
  • Provide financial advice and assistance to the Division's SES and Directors.
  • Provide input into the maintenance of budget and financial procedures, templates and models
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor to support the efficient operations of the service
  • Apply the principles of cooperative and safe working practices consistent with the APS Values, APS Code of Conduct and the Department's mission, vision, approach and values.


  • The successful applicant is required to have extensive experience in financial management accounting.
