About the Role:

Media Branch staff work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to help enhance and protect the department's reputation in the media and through official social media channels. Media Advisers are responsible for leading teams to deliver efficient, effective and high-quality social media & media communication and multimedia. Senior Advisers apply their expertise to guide the department's social and traditional media presence in line with business objectives. Media Advisers work under broad direction, exercising considerable independence, high level judgement and consideration of strategic implications. They liaise and work with key stakeholders and ensure social media and media activities adhere to whole of Government communication guidelines, supporting business teams to identify strategic communication outcomes. With the Media Branch moving towards an integrated approach to digital and media management, cross-skilling opportunities exist to successful applicants.

What your duties will include:

  • Lead the delivery and evaluation of media/social media messages and produce high-quality multimedia content to deadlines
  • Monitor existing and emerging social media and digital communication trends, and identify opportunities to improve capabilities
  • Develop, enhance and moderate active online engagement platforms, including facilitating online discussions internally and externally
  • Develop, implement and evaluate social media strategies and content marketing plans internally and externally
  • Exercise judgment to identify, escalate, and effectively manage potential issues, and provide expert communication advice to executive
  • Prepare, brief, and advise spokespeople effectively, including sensitive issues
  • Develop and manage key stakeholder relationships, including effectively engaging with media organizations and journalists
  • Leading and managing staff including overseeing the management of performance, attendance and health, and well-being.

    What you will bring to the role:
  • At least three years experience and a degree or diploma in journalism, communications, public relations or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in communications and media space is essential
  • Experience within the Public Sector is highly regarded
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong knowledge of a variety of media platform management
