Chandler Macleod has partnered with a Federal Government Agency to engage an APS6 Senior Work Health & Safety Adviser. This position is in Penrith, Full-Time for an initial 12 month temporary contract with potential for extension.

You will be responsible for supporting, promoting and driving a positive and pro-active safety culture through a strong focus on safety. Our client is looking for a passionate and proactive safety professional with exceptional relationship building abilities to join their WHS team. This role will suit an organised self-starter who is confident and capable in all things relating to best practise safety processes.

Duties will include but not limited to:

  • Manage the rehabilitation program and return to work process in accordance with the Commonwealth Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (SRC) Act 1988 and Comcare Guidelines for Rehabilitation Authorities
  • Undertake research, development and implementation of policy, procedures and initiatives related to the provision of work health and safety advice and guidance
  • Provide expert advice, working closely with managers to implement people management solutions
  • Prepare accurate and timely reporting on work health and safety data to influence initiatives in this area
  • Establish rapport and develop strong professional relationships with the Commonwealth regulator, Comcare and rehabilitation providers
  • Engage in complex, sensitive and sometimes difficult conversations with a diverse audience
  • Exercise sound decision-making and judgment in complex personnel matters while maintaining discretion and confidentiality
  • Prepare high level written documentation on a range work health and safety issues
  • Coordinate the agency's Work Health and Safety committee, performing the secretariat function
  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvement in the delivery and management of work health and safety at the Commission


To be suitable for the role you will have:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in the disciplines of Human Resource Management, or Work Health and Safety, or Law or equivalent experience
  • A well-developed understanding of the Commonwealth Work Health and Safety legislation and its application in a range of work environment/circumstances
  • An ability to develop productive partnerships with the Commonwealth regulator, and a range of rehabilitation providers
  • A strong knowledge of work health and safety management practices


Applicants also must be able to establish their background as checkable to be considered eligible for a security clearance. This includes:
