About the team:
The Executive and Corporate Communications team provides strategic advice, support and content development for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and members of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to support their internal and external communication and engagement activity. Through effective management and ongoing improvement of the Agency's corporate communication channels, the team also supports the delivery of quality outcomes by ensuring the Agency's staff and partners are informed and participants, providers, and the broader sector receive up to date information.

About the role:
The APS6 Accessibility Advisor is a team membership position that may be required to perform work that involves team leadership and management responsibilities including the setting of priorities and managing workflows of a team. It will require working collaboratively within the team including sharing and developing specialised knowledge in areas of expertise. The position has reasonable autonomy and accountability to exercise both initiative and judgment to interpret legislation and policy, in the application of practices and procedures to achieve outcomes within the functions. The APS6 Accessibility Advisor will provide detailed technical, professional, policy, operational support and advice in relation to complex problems.

It may be required to coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, program and project management and policy development that support the agency's objectives. The role will have a considerable level of public contact in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive issues. It may liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a representational role on behalf of the branch and wider Agency.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Developing auditing process with internal audit team to ensure compliance with the agency'sstandards of accessible communications.
  • Working with internal audit team to develop reports on non-compliance including issues found and recommended solutions.
  • Managing the immediate update and continuous improvement of the Accessibility Hub, including ongoing review and update of resources and self-guided training.
  • Supporting the management of the accessibility inbox.
  • Supporting the development and/or coordination of accessibility training and workshops to improve the quality of communications products and general accessibility capability uplift.
  • Supporting the Agency's accessible communications work ensuring products and promotional items are accessible and align with the agency's style and brand guidelines.
  • Assisting with outputs associated with the Agency's accessible print, design, Braille and LOTE translations including provide advice on content accuracy.
  • Developing and supporting reporting and presentations on accessibility practice and pilot progress.
  • Defining and testing solutions according to specifications using various accessibility testing tools and/or assistive technologies.
  • Coordinating the required ongoing Agency wide sessions
  • Maintaining knowledge of current developments and trends in accessibility and digital technologies and how they may assist the Agency to achieve best practice.
