About the role:
The APS5 Work Health & Safety Advisor is a team membership position and is accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to an area of responsibility. The position will provide policy advice within an area of specialisation with advice based on policies and legislation.
You will undertake activities and tasks using available information where options are not always evident. It will be required to perform procedural, clerical, administrative and operational tasks that supports and contributes to the agency's objectives
You will have a considerable level of contact with internal and external stakeholders and will be required to communicate with and provide advice on a range of matters to resolve moderately complex to complex enquiries.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Providing sound WHS advice and working collaboratively with workers and managers regarding WHS legislation, policy, processes and procedures.
  • Providing technical WHS advice to support the business functions of the WHSW Team.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, and contributing to the development of learning and development materials.
  • Assisting in the management and provision of advice on incident responses, including coordinating incident investigations.
  • Assisting in undertaking / reviewing hazard inspections and risk assessments along with follow-up of corrective action plans.
  • Coordinating the development and maintenance of the agency's hazard inspection schedule.
  • Promoting safety culture in the agency, provide guidance to colleagues and assisting in the development of WHS communications, including Safety Alerts and Safety Shares.
  • Assisting in the preparation of briefs, reports, meeting papers and other materials related to managing WHS in the agency.

  • Ability to work within and across teams and adapt quickly to a changing environment
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to prioritise and allocate tasks in an efficient manner while also maintaining high work standards and accuracy
