About the Role:
The Project Officer is a team membership position that involves responsibilities in connecting with internal and external stakeholders and plays a role in providing quality and timely reporting to the Executive on matters related to engagement with Commonwealth, State and Territory officials and other external governance bodies.

The position has reasonable autonomy and accountability to exercise both initiative and judgment to contribute to the implementation of strategic change management projects. It also supports the development of major programs of work that are agreed at relevant internal and external government forums; The role requires an ability to work collaboratively with others to deliver on the objectives of the Agency and to build strong links between State Governments and the agency.

It may be required to assist in the strategic planning and project management that support the agency's objectives. There will be a need to coordinate and monitor the implementation of activities, reporting progress and escalating identified risks. The role will have a considerable level of external Agency contact in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive issues. It may liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a representational role on behalf of the Government Relations Branch and the agency.
This is a key role in supporting the Agency in its participation at all levels of government. The work will be varied, fast-paced, and highly valued.

Under limited direction, the Project Officer will provide support to management and senior executive, and will be required to:

  • Develop and/or coordinate briefing material to support Executive attendance at intergovernmental and trilateral forums.
  • Develop and support relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives, and anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations.
  • Build governance-related capability across the Agency by engaging and working with subject matter experts, implementing processes and tools, and undertaking
    continuous quality improvement of existing practises and processes.
  • Proactively develop and manage planning and timeframes for agency attendance at meetings.
  • Maintain the register of actions and risks arising from trilateral forums and prepare progress reports for the senior executive.
  • Critically analyse information from a variety of sources to identify and monitor emerging themes and issues relevant to the work of the agency or its participation in the
    intergovernmental forums.
  • Monitor and record issues and concerns raised by States and Territories to assist with Agency briefing and relationship management.
  • Take the initiative to progress work to meet business objectives, provide advice and guidance on more complex issues.
  • Take a solutions-based approach to problem solving and resolve issues within area of responsibility. When matters need to be escalated, make recommendations that are
    practical and informed.
  • Develop and implement procedural, operational, corporate, administrative and business support documentation consistent with business requirements.
  • Actively participate in cross agency meetings internal and external forums, representing State Relations.
  • Contribute to the team culture of being collaborative, dynamic and high performing by leading by example and recognising and acting on opportunities to support staff
    skill development.
  • Adapt and reprioritise multiple projects and activities as directed.
  • Promote workplace practices consistent with Agency policy and in accordance with Australian Public Service values and leadership behaviours.
