Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS6 Accountant on a contract for 3 months with potential extension of 3 Month.

Position Overview

The roles are responsible for managing key components of the asset accounting and financial reporting for the agency, including: Financial reporting, Lease accounting, maintenance of the asset register and quality assurance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Asset and lease related financial statement reporting and quality assurance, including
    • Monthly Comcover insurance schedule updates
    • Stocktake management
    • Quality assurance of asset and lease registers data and values
    • Management of audit concerns
    • Management / reporting of Shared Services asset arrangements
  • Complex lease data processing Assist in the preparation of the Agency's Financial Statements, related notes, in accordance with the Australian Accounting Standards, legislation and Commonwealth Resource Management Framework End of Month reporting, including:
    • Month end journals, reconciliations; and Variance analysis
    • CBMS reporting to the Department of Finance
    • Quality assurance and transaction testing
    • Assist with the preparation of briefings, position papers and technical workpapers
    • Assist with Ad hoc reporting requests.

Skills & Experience:

  • Ability to interpret accounting standards, guidance and internal policy
  • Ability to build and maintain networks within the agency
  • Ability to work in a high-pressured demanding environment while meeting deadlines
  • Advanced Excel knowledge and skills
  • Clear concise communication - both written and verbal
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Knowledge of The Commonwealth Resource Management Framework, particularly the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability (PGPA) Act 2013 and associated Financial Reporting Rule, government policies and Australian Accounting Standards
  • Analytical, interpretive and problem solving
  • Accounting Degree or relevant financial experience

Mandatory Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to have a Baseline security clearance.
