As part of a policy to attract and retain the best quality graduates, Member Councils of the NSW Local Government Graduate Program are pleased to offer permanent, full-time roles to outstanding graduates.

Councils are innovative and progressive in their employment policies and practices. This equates to an employment experience in which development opportunities are numerous, and advancement potential high.

NSW Local Government is comprised of 152 general purpose councils and a number of special-purpose county councils. Local Government in NSW employs over 40,000 people, with an annual expenditure of around $6 billion. Combine these numbers with the hundreds of Councils across Australia, and the prospects of a rewarding and diverse career in one of Australia’s largest employment sectors are staggering!

Development Program
A structured development program accompanies these fantastic opportunities for your first two years of employment. This development program is designed to equip you with the skills, competencies and understanding of Local Government and accelerate your learning to assist you in embarking on a rewarding and successful career.

To best meet the needs of Councils and to provide flexible commencement dates and continuous opportunities, Local Government Graduate Program is open to receive applications all year round – there is no closing date. By registering interest in the program, you will be considered for employment opportunities as they arise in Local Government Graduate Program Member Councils!
