The Coal Mining Business Line Manager is responsible for leading and supporting the activities of the company in respect of coal mining industry clients throughout the Asia-Pacific region, with special attention to projects in Queensland, New South Wales and New Zealand.
Business Development • Grow the business in the coal mining industry • Review and prepare the business development strategy in the coal mining sector, and make recommendations for prospective growth areas for which the company has or can develop the relevant skills. • Work closely with the Director Business Lines and Major Projects, and Regional Managers to set and achieve challenging and increasing annual Sales Targets, and be measured by achievement of these targets. • Lead and assist with the planning and preparation of coal mining and related industry proposals and tenders for major and strategic projects
• Develop alliances, agreements with specialist sub consultants and other business associations that will broaden the opportunities available to the company, and increase the range of services offered and project workload. • Focus on servicing sectors, clients and projects that will enhance the profitability of the company and ensure we can manage our commercial risks. Team Development, Liaison & Networking • Develop a detailed understanding of the skills of the relevant company professionals in Asia-Pacific and other relevant offices, and maintain a matrix of their skills either on a stand-alone basis or as part of the wider company mining sector community. • Assist Proposal and Project Directors/Managers in Asia-Pacific offices to assemble and maintain highly skilled technical teams on a ‘best for project’ basis. • Help build the capacity of Asia-Pacific offices to undertake engineering and environmental projects for major coal mining projects and clients.
• Work within the organisation frame work of the host office, attending relevant local marketing and operations meetings as requested. • Stay abreast of Asia-Pacific (and global) coal mining commercial and technical developments, maintain the company’s standing in the industry, and develop networks and relationships with global clients. • Coordinate and participate in the Key Client Manager program with respect for nominated mining industry clients. • Actively participate in regular marketing (and communication) meetings of the Asia-Pacific mining industry group
• Lead the development of promotional and project record information
Project Roles • Undertake project roles as agreed, such as project director, peer reviewer, project manager, short-term specialist or technical expert, etc. • Identify project roles where you are able to make a significant contribution technically and promote your involvement at the appropriate stage of proposal and/or project development. • Reach and maintain an average project utilisation of at least 50% of available time within approximately 6 months of commencement. Business Line Reporting • Liaise with the Director Business Lines, other Business Line Leaders, Regional Managers and other stakeholders in the preparation of Business Plans, Strategic Plans and Quarterly Reports. • Prepare budget details, and subsequently manage expenditure within the approved budget for Mining Business Line activities including promotional and representative activities, travel and communications. Manage discretionary expenditure associated with major pursuits and proposal preparation. • Liaise with the company's Global Mining Business Line Leader regarding project support, client communication and the coordination of activities during visits to Asia-Pacific.
