HELPING YOU SEE THE WOOD FROM THE TREES
All organisations aspire to perform at the highest level, but the question always arises – how does an organisation achieve this? When you’re involved in the day-to-day task of managing an organisation, it’s often hard to identify its strengths and challenges, and to formulate a strategy to build on the strengths and rectify the weaknesses.
At Chandler Macleod, our work on Organisational Development is intended to do just that – to help you see the business wood from the business trees, and make your organisation stronger, fitter, and more able to compete in today’s challenging environment.
A HEALTH CHECK FOR ORGANISATIONS
Organisational Development is a planned, organisation-wide effort, to increase an organisation's effectiveness, performance and viability.
Organisational Development interventions begin with the setting of a clear business case and a set of goals for the organisation – we call this the ‘ideal state’. We then undertake a ‘gap analysis’ of where the organisation actually is (with reference to the future state goals, business case and strategic goals and priorities). Finally, we design and implement initiatives to bridge the gap, as well as leveraging what is already working well within the organisation.
We like to think that the relationship between an Organisational Development practitioner and an organisation is akin to the relationship between a doctor and the human body. The doctor ‘diagnoses’ (or discovers) the most important priorities to address in the organisation, suggests a change-management plan, and then guides the organisation through the necessary change.
Good Organisational Development is both proactive and preventative – effectively, a ‘health check’ for organisations.
THE TOOLS WE USE
The analytical tools we use for this process are designed to:–
-
measure and assess the current state (behavioural norms, processes and outcomes)
-
identify and determine the levers for change
-
highlight the barriers and enablers to organisational effectiveness
-
develop and deploy strategies for improvement
-
monitor change and improvement over time
