At Chandler Macleod, Safety underpins everything we do.
We understand that a successful workplace safety strategy needs to go beyond issues of legal compliance - real safety is not just ticking boxes, its capturing the hearts and minds of the staff who must carry it out, every working day.
THINK SAFE, WORK SAFE, GO HOME SAFE
An effective safety program provides an employer, with the advantages of compliance with the law, but also with commercial, psychosocial and productivity benefits.
The consequences of neglecting safety in the workplace include high social and financial costs in the form of higher workers compensation claims and premiums, increased commercial and legal risk to senior managers, and downturn in productivity.
Less measureable, but no less important, is the impact that neglecting safety can have both on staff morale, and on the reputation the company portrays to its internal and external stakeholders.
Any safety initiatives we introduce are practical and user friendly, with the goal of empowering the workforce to make their working lives as safe as they can possibly be.
GOING THE EXTRA MILE
Like the safety demonstrations on aeroplanes, it’s easy to feel that we’ve all heard the workplace safety message before. Consequently, Chandler Macleod’s dedicated safety team is always looking for innovative and imaginative ways to get the safety message across.
Some of the initiatives we have introduced on behalf of clients across an array of industries have included:
-
SMS Injury Alerts. A system of alerting all staff in a large workplace of an incident as soon as possible after it occurred, detailing what happened, how it happened and how to avoid it happening again.
-
First Three, Injury Free. A system of email and SMS alerts targeting new employees, alerting them to the hazards of working in a new location. This was implemented after our own analysis discovered that 70 per cent of incidents occurred within the first three months of an assignment.
-
Monthly Safety Surveys and Feedback forms, to encourage employees to respond to questions relating to recent safety activities.
-
Presentations at high-risk workplace. We have partnered with organisations such as with the Paraplegic Benefit Fund and the Workplace Tragedy Family Support group, to deliver safety culture presentations. These convey a powerful message about the importance of personal and workplace/workmate safety.
Our work in Safety takes in all levels of staff, from front line workers through to senior management. In many instances, we have placed our consultants on-site at clients’ workplaces, in order to go the extra mile in conveying the safety message.
And we’re proud of the results.
